MUTUAL BANK OUTLINES FUTURE OPTIONS FOR ACQUIRED SAFTLER PROPERTY
Whitman, MA, Issued November 2, 2011…Nearly a year after acquiring the landmark Saftler property located at 342 Bedford Street (Route 18), Mutual Bank CEO Glen S. White outlined future plans for the property, which will include a new branch location for Mutual Bank and some leasing options for businesses seeking to locate in Whitman.
CEO White disclosed the plans for the property, as demolition of the existing structure on the site gets underway. He said that the Bank's management team and Board of Directors have studied a number of options for the property. "This is a high-traffic, high-visibility location that has housed a business for decades," White said, adding, "As the economy continues to rebound, we believe there will be renewed interest in this location which is central to Whitman and also a very business-friendly location."
Because the site contains 4-plus acres, there is room for additional business development. The Mutual Bank management team will work with a leasing agent to determine the best way to proceed for additional businesses to locate on the property.
He did not offer a specific timetable for the development, but said that it would be as soon as is feasible, and added, "As a Bank that has been headquartered in Whitman for more than 120 years, we are committed to this town. While we see great opportunity to have a location for our bank on this property, we also remain committed to Whitman's downtown and our main office at 570 Washington Street will continue to be available to our many customers who visit this location."
