Mutual Federal Savings Bank Renovations Nearly Complete; Officials Reaffirm Commitment to Whitman’s Downtown Area

Whitman, MA / February 14, 2005 - A $600,000 renovation project at Mutual Federal Savings Bank’s flagship Whitman location is nearing completion, bank officials said recently.

The project, which began in 2004, called for renovations to more than 4600 square feet of the building’s total 8500 square feet of space.

The announcement comes on the heels of news that several local businesses in Whitman Center have closed. Glen White, CEO of Mutual Federal Savings Bank, said that the bank has a strong commitment to the continued development of Whitman Center. “We are here for the long run,” White said, adding, “We who live or work in Whitman are fortunate to have a traditional downtown. A town center such as ours strengthens the community and is actually the heart of the community. Mutual Federal Savings Bank is pleased to invest in its future, and we encourage residents to patronize Whitman Center businesses whenever possible. It would be a shame to neglect such an important asset."

Mutual Federal Savings Bank’s flagship office in Whitman Center is more than 100 years old. In 1995, the Bank completed a major renovation of the building exterior. At one time, the two-story structure leased space from its second floor for local business use, including attorneys’ offices. As the bank grew and space became a premium, the second floor was used by the bank for storage and for administrative purposes.

The second floor has been redone and transformed into a modern business center with two conference areas, eight private offices, a kitchen area and multiple work stations.

The renovations were performed by Construction Resources Inc.; the design was provided by the Boston architectural firm Nichols Architects, LLC.

White notes that the renovations to the second floor essentially double the bank’s usable work area. He noted, “We are strongly committed to remaining part of the Whitman Center Business District and are already at work planning future improvements to the street level interior. We believe our customers, as well as the residents of Whitman, will appreciate the new look of the bank.”
