WHITMAN, MA, ISSUED MAY 22, 2006…Mutual Federal Savings Bank (to be known as “Mutual Bank” as of June 5, 2006), a leading independent community bank with branches in Whitman, Halifax, Hanson and Carver, has taken a major sponsorship role for the Whitman-Hanson Educational Foundation’s Family Day and “Race for Excellence.”

The event, held May 21, included a 5K “Race for Excellence” at the Whitman Town Park, followed by an afternoon of family activities. The bank’s contribution of $2500 toward the event has been used to help generate publicity and promotional materials for the event, which was expected to draw a crowd of hundreds of area residents and participants.

The event was organized to support the Whitman-Hanson Education Foundation, Inc., whose mission is to broaden the scope of support for public education K-12 through large-scale fundraising efforts that will engage community members, businesses, parents and students while simultaneously generating funds that will enrich the curriculum of the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District. The Foundation seeks to promote educational excellence by providing grants funded through private donations.

Proceeds from the “Race for Excellence” will directly benefit the Louise A. Conley School; John H. Duval Jr. School; the Hanson Middle School; Indian Head School; Maquan Elementary School; Park Avenue Early Childhood Center; Whitman Middle School and Whitman-Hanson Regional High School.
